A surprising fact about our British workers has been surveyed concerning job satisfaction. We all know that in order to survive in your jobs, you have to at least be happy with the environment you are in, you’re happy with the job you have and you have to have passion for the job to be able to keep doing it everyday. At least that is what our career councilor would tell us.
But recently, there has been a survey revealed that most of us British workers would stay on a job because of the pay and not mind the job satisfaction or consider the pay more than changing jobs or careers for job satisfaction. This is showing that there has been a reversal of priorities for us Briton’s since last year.
This survey was conducted on 2,000 employees across different jobs and sectors and this was a study done by Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. They have found out the 54 percent of the workers have now sought their paychecks as their main reason for wanting to change jobs or stay in their jobs, unlike the 61 percent last year that stated their job satisfaction is more important for them to have in their jobs.
Due to the pay freezes, high inflation and slow growth that we have all experienced in the past six months, 36 percent of those surveyed have stated a decline in the quality of life. There might be a lot of people these days wanting to leave their jobs for more pay and there are also reports of being under stress and less satisfaction noted in their jobs.
Eighteen percent of those that were surveyed report that they almost always run out of money before their paychecks arrive and they have found constant struggles in paying their bills as well.
Public sector workers are least engaged with their jobs as showed in the survey and 35 percent of them fear they could lose their employment with these steep government cuts.
The unemployment benefit claimed by a number of Britons has seen its biggest jump in two years in the last month and 7.7 percent is still the jobless rate. Average earnings grew at around half the rate of the inflation.
Although this might actually be true. We have no choice at the moment considering that we are barely hanging on with what we have for our pay.
